Below we offer you a few Barcelona facts, which you may find interesting and which will help you during your visit to this city. The city of Barcelona is the main one for the Catalonian region of the Spain and currently has a population of more than 1.5 million residing in it.
When visiting the city you will find that there are two forms of Spanish spoken here. The Castilian Spanish that is used by Spaniards throughout the country but here they also speak Catalan, which was outlawed by Franco when he was in power. You will therefore find that all street names throughout the city are in Catalan and in the museums as well, along with Castilian Spanish.
When you are visiting the city you will need to bring an adapter with you for your own electrical goods as most of the hotels only run of 220 volts AC. But be warned there are in fact some of the older hotels around and these actually only run 110 or 125 volts AC through their electrical supply.
Although there is no restrictions on what one wears when in Barcelona it is best that, you try and remain as sympathetic towards local customs as you can. Therefore, whilst touring the city and if intending to visit any of the churches or cathedrals in the city then wear something appropriate. It is advisable that you save your more revealing outfits for those locations (nightclubs and beaches) and wear something instead to hide your modesty.
